553 | All Done

Gunner’s a healer, isn’t that something? Now you know who put Zap back together after that nasty gut shot.

Not all psychics are healers, by the way. It takes a strong telekinetic who has studied anatomy and had a lot of practice. Now you can just be even more frustrated when Gunner does something awful. Gunner, you know better.

Also, please adopt this kitten I found. He’s awesome.

I have to admit, I am a bit bummed at this recent revelation.  I love Gunner’s character very much, but giving him the ability to heal kinda downplays his awesomeness to me.  I can understand his psychic abilities being used to see bones that are broken, and even set them in the proper place, but I don’t feel he should have the ability to speed the body’s healing process.

I dunno, that’s just my two cents.  Characters tend to become less epic when they’re overpowered beyond comprehension.  I really don’t want to see that happen to Gunner! <3

  • Neiona

This all assuming, of course, that Gunner actually does heal Naveed, instead of keeping her bones in place via his powers until which time it becomes inconvenient for him. ;)

that kitten is destined to become the next naveed catlos.
also these healing powers only serve to make gunner all the more boss, you think he’s down and then BAM! he’s healed himself

  • Adam850

Wouldn’t that mean Gunner is also capable of excruciating torture as well?  Just by messing with body parts psychically.

Love this page! Again the expression on Naveed’s face in panel 2 and the side on view from panel 3 is amazing.

    Also uber cute kitten! <3

  • Paul

Sorry, but I think the slight smile on Gunners face in the last panel is far more telling.

Anyway, Naveed is so mind screwed now that she’d gnaw her own arm off if he asked her. As I said last time, he let her fill in the blank after he said “I don’t care for them” … she has yet to realise that he doesn’t care for her either IMHO …

  • Plucky Pooka

I wonder how many people thought Gunner would heal them, only to have Gunner just walk away.

Cute kitty! Good luck finding him a home.

  • But I thought Gunner was keeping Naveed…

    Oh wait, wrong cat?

  • Yep! (see this piece of concept art from my blog)

In my mind, Gunner’s healing reveals an interesting dichotomy to his personality. He’s capable of doing so much to help people, but instead he chooses to destroy them.

  • Angela Griffin

And now he just needs to kiss it and make it ALL better XD

SQUEE! That little kitten is BEYOND CUTE! Alas, I have a cat already who would not take kindly to a young male entering her domain…

  • Angela Griffin

    Love the concept art! Wow!
Of course, now I’m wondering, If Gunner can just rip people’s heads off at will, why the heck does he bother carrying a gun? (Is it just to add to the fact that his name is Gunner?)

I sometimes read expanded universe Star Wars comics, and in the Legacy series it’s revealed that Cade Skywalker (a descendant of Luke) can use the force to heal wounds (very rare among force users), or to worsen them to kill someone, and he says that these two are actually the same power, just being used in different ways. I get the same feeling from this as from that, except that Cade was a protagonist.

Excellent concept art there; it says so much with so little. Gunner and other psychics were once studied by scientists apparently, who also don’t seem to care much about life and death giving their apathetic reactions to the death of a fellow scientist standing next to them.

  • Hate to be the nitpicker (though the role falls to me all too often):  the page number in the web page title is 533 instead of 553.  The number in the actual comic image is correct, of course.

Nitpick aside, great page!  I like how you’ve shown the concept that if normal healing is a painful process, accelerated healing should be considerably more painful.

    :)

  • Good catch! Fixed

  • Oh my, Naveed being held together by evil psychic duct tape! O_O

  • Neiona

    xD Niiiice.

as we say in the military: never piss off the medics… the ones that know how to put you back together are also the ones who know how to take you apart

  • Smerc

maybe it is just the angle on the view of her face in that last scene but it kinda screams “i’m going to use you as my personal squeaky toy!!”
whether ‘toy’ is in a good or bad way remains to be seen.
and as to the kind of ‘squeaking’ remains to be seen.

    …squeak.

and thats a cute fuzzy blur you have there Lepas, how did you get it to stop long enough to realize it was a kitten?

  • Astralfury

Comic aside, your ability to attract every stray domestic animal within a thousand mile radius never ceases to amaze me. Quite the awesome super power haha.

  • Ramification

    S.E. Lain much?

Love the kitten. Wish I could take.

  • Ramification

Suggestion: Replace “all done” for strip title with “lay on hands”.

  • Venture

Wow, it’s hard to believe that scene was 7 years ago. The first appearance of our pirates and the beginning of the sequence of events that split up our team and brought us to where we are now. Zap history in the making!

  • GurrenLagannRox

FINALLY, I am now up to date with Zap!

  •  Welcome, new Zapling!

    :)

  • Heather Bea

Good luck finding a home for kitty. S/He is so cute :3

  • Maybe it takes a lot of concentration, or he can only do it when his emotions are heightened, such as Zap with the controls of Excelsior.
Also, he can fix a gunshot (as with Zap), but it’s probably hard to do that if you rip their head off…

  • LucarioGuy15

The kitty is so CUUUUTE! I mean the actual cat, not Naveed. No, wait… I take that back. :P

  • Don Quixote

That kitten is made of ADORABLE, has s/he been adopted yet? Afraid I’m unable to take her/him in as I’m allergic, but I hope you find a good home for that cutey patooty!

  • Speedy Marsh

Alternate ending- Gunner rolls a 1, and Naveed’s arm dissolves into a puddle of organic goo.
