499 | So Worthless

499 | So Worthless

October 25, 2010 | 12:41 am, by Pascalle Lepas

Hello, goodnight. I am super tired because I cleaned my house all day.

I did an interview with LotsofInterviews.com. You can check it out here. They have lots of interviews.

Also, I drew a picture of some hippos.

Thanks for reading, my Zaplings! I love you MOST OF ALL.

“It's not even your real arm!”
    perfect
    haha

Ha! Naveed looks so disappointed in panel 6. She's probably thinking 'Why does this little red haired ***** always ruin my fun?'
    As usual, good work.

  • G@tor

Pshht, look how defiant she is in panel two. If that girl isn't faking, I'll eat my own fist… awkwwwwwward.

  • Sunphoenix_72

I have to agree with G@tor on this… I just hope whatever she pulls does cost her the other arm…

  • Wow, either Naveed is going to eat her words or G@tor is going to eat a fist. Its Win-Win!

  • SlapCat

    surpise attack in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

  • SpringLoaded12

lol, Naveed still acts like she expects Reona and the crew to bring her the ship despite being told several times that it's been blown up. It's like talking to a wall XD

So uh, not to be naggy, but… lepas, when will the comic's attention turn back to Zap's situation? Obviously this needs to be resolved first, but we haven't seen him in like 80 strips.

  • Thisnamereallysux

Anyone notice the arm is rebuilding?

  • No, Naveed stomped on it and it broke off to the base.

  • guest

Man, Naveed is definitely fitting the dumb villain right now. Not understanding that they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, and thinking they are hiding the truth, when they are really telling her exactly what she is asking.

  • Gillsing

“Oh, Efrem still cares about me? Now you have given me the spiritual strength to fight back!”

  • Nah, Reona is super over Efrem. That's supposed to be a little tidbit for the reader, but you guys just are not interested in any of the Efrem hints we're dropping. The poor guy is black-listed.

  • You know, it occurs to me that Naveed should have been able to see the explosion. Unless they beat the blast wave to the surface (which seems unlikely), she should have seen a nice plume at the surface when the blast front arrived. (Water carries blast energy very well.)

I suppose, though, that the ship/temple could have been VERY deep – like miles – so that the energy was dissipated enough upon reaching the surface that Naveed & crew didn't notice the additional ripples …

    ;)

I re-read that section recently. It looked to me like Efrem wanted to distract Zap while Naveed dealt with Reona to prevent Zap from interfering with Naveed, but he did anyway because Efrem didn't really make an effort.

But, given that the author of the whole thing is saying otherwise, I suppose I must be mistaken. I can has 'splaination plz?

  • Gillsing

But I thought we already knew that Efrem intervened to save Reona? And apparently Gunner knew as well, but didn't consider it to be a capital crime? Not yet anyway. And I didn't mean that Reona wasn't over Efrem. I just thought that maybe if she figured that he's still working for her side, then he didn't really betray her, thus making her world a tiny bit less grimdark. But I had obviously forgotten too much about their last encounter, where he pretty much spelled out everything.

Though now that I reread those pages, it looked like Efrem was quite willing to let Naveed kill Reona, and Zap had to show up and stop her. I guess Efrem might have felt Zap approaching, and planned it out very carefully? Like the competent undercover agent that he is? I say we let the man work in peace and continue to ignore him until the end, when he reveals everything. :-)

  • SpringLoaded12

Water carries blast energy well? Wow. The more you know

Maybe Naveed & crew just aren't very aware of their surroundings ;P

  • (the aquarian's controlled and dispelled the blast)

  • Zepher

it looks like it's made of floating bits in panel 7 O.o

  • Trashbandit

Strip #500 next week. Hope someone's made you a big cake Pascalle and Lepas :)

  • I hope Pascalle and Lepas each get their own cakes…

  • wow…

  • Efrem is kind of apathetic towards Reona at this point. He MIGHT have had feelings for her before, hence the saving her from Naveed the first go round, but in his mind, she continued to put herself in harms way and he can't be bothered to keep saving her. He has an agenda. Reona is not part of that agenda. She was merely a distraction for him… there is another reason for their “relationship” but I can't reveal that spoiler free at the moment.

Keep in mind, Gunner has a plan. Hes aware of the possible outcomes of the actions Efrem made. Gunner has what would be considered prior knowledge of upcoming situations. It is possible Gunner didnt consider it a “capital crime” because Gunner does not believe anything Reona can do will affect his plans. The question is… is he right in believing that? Only two people know for sure. I happen to be one of them. :)

  • Okay, Chris, you can have a cake too …

    ;)

  • Apparently I'm the third wheel in our two person operation. lol

  • Nick

Hey Lepas, I saw the picture you made for the dreamland chronicles today. Beautifully done, I hope it will get you some more readers you so much deserve :)

  • It's not 'dumb villain.' It is a pretty common technique to torture someone to make sure they're telling everything. In America, we call it 'waterboarding.'

  • Thanks, Nick! Readers are like delicious caramel popcorn – there's just never enough!

  • Reaver82

No it is a technique to make people tell you what you want to hear. Nothing to do with the truth, everything or reality.

  • That's fine. As long as people get that Naveed isn't just being 'dense' I'm cool.

  • Wolf

OK. Naveed just crossed a major line from villain to absolutely irredeemable <expletive deleted=””>. I know it's just a scifi/fantasy story, yet still, what I want Naveed to experience before expiring is not printable.

    Good good story, Pascalle!</expletive>

  • Ranogan

Hi! so i just wanted to say that I started reading your comic yesterday, and its really good! I actually started reading your comic because of the guest strip on dreamland chronicles, but yea. Great stuff!

  • Welcome, new Zapling!

I, too, am a fellow “Dreamer”; I think I started reading Zap the first time Calle's guest art was put up on Scott's site. Interesting to see that its encore appearance is once again bringing new Zaplings in!

    :)

  • Keeva

    NAME FAIL.

  • John Smith

    Naveed is losing it.
