708 | People of Earth

Hey, it’s those one guys again.

This doesn’t sound good, though.

Comments

  • Gunner knows when to keep a speech sweet and simple. Don’t want to lose the audience’s attention!

  • He’s a man of few words.

  • Speedy Marsh

This should be good. They have a score to settle.

  • Daniel Schealler

I’d have thought that a night in bed with Naveed would have left him in a slightly better mood. :P

  • Speedy Marsh

This is Gunner in a better mood.

  • Speedy Marsh

How are they gonna foil his plot if he doesn’t monologue?

  • Daniel Schealler

    Through Zap’s Magic Psychic Powers.

  • Oh, look! It’s the elementals! When did they get to Earth?

  • Berserk Knight

True. He started off with “People of Earth…” instead of going straight into “Die.” first.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

Always a man of few words

  • Brandon Jones

    Well that was subtle

  • Astralfury

You’d have thought a bad-ass opening speech would have been part of his plans, I mean he’s been plotting this moment for how long now?

  • “Nothing personal, it’s just business… who am I kidding, this is very personal!”

  • Kindra Coates

Not sure, but I’m imagining the decision went something like this: “We need to get as far away from Gunner’s crazy plan that will kill all of us as we can.” “That Earth planet is on the fringe of the galaxy, let’s go there.” “Sounds perfect.” Then this scene.

  • SyntheticPhylum

Why do I get the feeling that Gunner has finally screwed the pooch, regarding his previous “allies?” And that they may end up siding with Zap now in bringing him down?

  • BeepDog

Yes, he didn’t fall into the trap of monologing.

  • Canin Christell

Who says his plot is going to be foiled?

  • Nico

    “Nothing business, it’s just personal!”

  • sunphoenix

Yep. Gunner’s got a flare for the simple and direct.

But I don’t think he’s bothered to ponder.. earth does not just have ‘earthmen’ there nowadays. Just like I’m sure ‘earthmen’ have made homes on various other alien worlds… so have non-humans made homes on earth. The areas we’ve seen of known space are pretty cosmopolitan.

So its obvious his quest for justice has long gone off the rails.. now he is just a stupid terrorist… killing people.. ‘because’… he doesn’t know anything else to do with himself.. what a looser!

Quote: Jacob – “Are you so much a fucking loser, you can’t tell when you’ve won?”
    – From Dusk Til Dawn {1996}

  • Amanda

Some people have the worst luck.

  • Amanda

I would imagine that humans are still the Majority on Earth. It is the home planet, after all. Kind of like, the USA is made up of like 12% immigrants or something like that, and there are something like 5% of Americans living abroad. (these figures could be completely wrong, it’s been a while since I heard the proper figures and they may have changed or I could be misremembering. I’m also too lazy to Google. But you get what I mean.) So if someone were to wipe out the USA they’d be eliminating a massive amount of non-Americans, but still mainly Americans. Just like there’d be a few Americans left throughout the world. I would imagine the figures wouldn’t be too different in a Universe where humans have the ability to travel to different planets, percentage wise. So, to Gunner, the deaths of what probably amounts to a few hundred thousand (or more) non-humans is just for the greater good.

  • safyrejet

Well truthfully, this a pretty bad-@ss opening speech….No reason those sorts of speeches have to be long winded.

  • safyrejet

Earth. Shouldn’t there be a Starbucks visible or did we finally get away from having one on every street? ;P

Nice giant digital screen effects in that last panel. You could kick off a series of Gunner pop art with that.

  • safyrejet

The trick is to get them monologuing at the opportune moment.

  • safyrejet

He never viewed them as anything more than tools, so I don’t think he’s concerned about making any “allies” into enemies. He doesn’t even care if Naveed is “with” him.

  • Wildcard

The problem with Gunner is that sometimes he’s just a bit too subtle. Come on man, just say what you mean.

    Oh.

  • Eric R Queen

    At least he was direct

  • Speedy Marsh

You’re right. It might be cling-wrapped or Ziploced. Either way, Gunner is bound to get iced.

  • Sandman366

Smartest thing he’s done yet. Finally dropping the monologue. And he manages it with a degree of style.

    But….I gots a hunch about those satellites….

  • SyntheticPhylum

And now Naveed realizes this. Hell hath NO fury like a CATWOMAN scorned! Which Gunner will soon learn, much to his dismay.

Unless, of course, this whole thing is a plot to get himself killed by the one person he truly cares about, being Zap. His species version of “suicide by cop,” perhaps.

  • safyrejet

    Freezer burn?

  • Crestlinger

Well he’ll be popular with the koolaid cults at least.

  • Psiberkiwi

Why monologue when you can get straight to the killing?

  • Psiberkiwi

I’d have to check the archives (or Pascalle or Chris could correct me), but when the Satellites left Gunner hadn’t they been brought to his base on Luna?

  • Anon3000

Does Panel 2 have anything to do with Panel 7? Nice “easter egg”, Lepas. ;)

Sad that Gunner still fell for one of the oldest warnings from Evil Antagonist Pitfalls for Dummies (maybe two). Wonder if his mistake was “quick enough” not to interfere with his plans?

  • Marduk

    Best speech ever.

  • Ori Klein

You can go first. In a fire.
    *bitchslap Gunner, Alucard style*

  • Ori Klein

We now interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you: a message from emo loser with inferiority complex.

  • fairportfan

Monsters vs Aliens: “…it’s just business.”

  • If he has all of those spaceships, what does he need the psychic army for?

  • Unfortunate for Earth.

  • l33tninja

    Those guys…

  • Rexan

    Oh. Well then.

  • “… Please die? Pretty please? Just drink bleach or something. I’ll give you 5 minutes, then ask again.”
