Classic Robot.

VOLUME 3 UPDATES: I should finish all of the $60 Artist Edition Bundles this week and mail them out, so if you are in that tier you should already have your book or it will be on it’s way shortly!  Thanks for being so patient, everyone! I’m glad getting the books drawn in and shipped out to everyone is going so smoothly. We sure needed something to go right for a change!

As soon as we finish mailing out all of the books I’ll make volume 3 available to purchase online for those who missed the Kickstarter, so stay tuned for that!

Thanks for reading, everyone!

Hm. Robot’s character has always fascinated me… I don’t know why, but I can never figure out what motivates him until after everything’s happened…

Also, the four … things… around Zap’s eyes? They were part of the crown, yes? I’ve been so confused….

  • Yeah they are four fasteners that kept the crown on. I’d say they are similar to magnets, but that wouldn’t really be the truth. But we can say magnets for simplicity’s sake.

  • Speedy Marsh

Design flaw? It’s called a feature.

  • safyrejet

Oh I love Zap’s faces. All of them, but esp panel 5. He’s so darn cute. Not William cute, different kinda cute. Also *squee* Looks like Holly and William are getting close. ^_^

Robot is mean without his memory, Zap was doofy without his, kinda makes me wonder what others would be like without their memory.

  • Deanna

    Aren’t they screws?

  • <3!

  • Speedy Marsh

I always thought the crown was screwed to his head. It looks like what’s left now is the medical equivalent of wall anchors, something like these:

  • linuxthekid

Noooooo! Let him put the chip back in! Its one of the few unanswered questions left!

  • Ramani_Rayne

Panel 3 was just so unexpected and priceless!

  • Rex

I suspect that is the robots plan.

  • Speedy Marsh

Or, maybe he wants to find out what’s on it, without plugging it into himself. He probably doesn’t want his old memories to change who he is now.

  • Speedy Marsh

Oops. Didn’t mean to make the picture so big.

Can you imagine having something like that drilled into your skull? As if Zap didn’t have enough headaches.

Even if the connectors are magnetic, they still have to be attached to his skull somehow. He’ll have to go to a real hospital if he wants to have them removed. He might decide to just keep them.

If I were his friend, I’d be tempted to attach random things to his head while he’s asleep.

He’ll know the honeymoon is over, when he wakes to find a honey-do list from Reona stuck to his head with a refrigerator magnet.

  • Well, I mean they are inserted into his head like a screw for sure. I mean originally they were implants that helped connect the crown to his head, if Pascalle changed their technical specs past the origin, then I could be wrong of course. But they aren’t simply just screws. If you look back to when Zap still had the crown, the implants were both above and below the actual “visor” area of the crown, showing it not physically (in the way of screws) attached to the crown.
You can see what I mean in #649

  • I dunno, removing Robot’s mean-ness kind of kills what I liked about him. That attitude was just hilarious at times. :D

  • This is what Robot is concerned about, but he is curious about what he’s missing.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

“skinny pirate !” lol, that’s rude

  • I like that Inman is all “Me?”

  • Astralfury

Haha Reona’s expression is as much Classic Reona as the attitude is classic robot.

  • Enjoy this little throw-back! :)

  • Speedy Marsh

Ok. I’m just trying to figure out how the crowns work. We Zaplings will need to use that technology to get you and Pascalle to do a prequel, once Zap ends.

On a totally unrelated matter, what’s your hat size?

  • Deanna

Oohh…so when you originally wrote that part of Zap! they were magnetic? But maybe Pascalle changed it after you wrote it?

  • safyrejet

At least this time she’s not mad at Zap. ;P

  • I really like that about this moment. They’re on the same page finally. :)

  • Its possible. We wrote it so long ago, and we’ve had to change a lot of smaller stuff to fit with the newer schedule. I mean, there was originally a LOT more stuff we were going to fit in, but decided to streamline the story so a bunch of stuff got cut and reworked to fit in the new projected finale. Those implants aren’t like a super important aspect to the story, so I’m not sure if Pascalle made a change in how they particularly work, but the end result is the same, that they are part of him getting the crown implanted.

  • My hat size is… wait a minute! I don’t know my hat size. Hmm…

Anyway, I’m currently working on a story bible for an idea of a spinoff for zap that is basically writing down some of the things for the universe I already had in my head but hadn’t committed to text necesarily (races, technology, etc). I don’t know if it will include the crown tech as the story isn’t about psychics necessarily. Its about Grivak and the Hunters. I’m kind of just doing it for the hell of it as I would need an artist at some point to do it. I don’t think my “style” could do it justice. So we’ll see.

  • Speedy Marsh

Wait! Are you saying that there are months worth of Zap! that we might never see? I mean, I know that parts of the story have seemed a little rushed, but I figured we’d come back to them before the end.

I have an idea… what if after Zap! ends, you go back and tell the rest of the story in an illustrated book form? You might be able to convince Pascalle to do one or two panels per week, instead of as many as 20. That would also keep Zap fans coming back, long enough to get hooked on Pascalle’s new comic.

Even if she just did a pencil sketch for each page, it would be enough to spur our imaginations, and let us see your stories.

  • Speedy Marsh

She usually saves that face for Zap. He seemed to be apologizing reflexively.

  • Deanna

Don’t hold out for hope, Pascalle is moving on to Wilde Life. Which I, for one, am SUPER excited for. I think Chris should draw illustrations for his new Zap! property, I think it would be fantastic.

  • Zap will be over before the end of this year easily. I don’t think Pascalle will want to hang around this universe for quite awhile. This has been our thing for more than 10 years now, and Pascalle has a great comic coming out this year that will be all her and I think she needs that.

I on the other hand, have no problem hanging on for as long as I can. I have plenty of ideas for stories, and while I can draw a little bit, my style doesn’t do Zap stories justice. So I would need to find another artist for projects like the Hunters or The Ancients stories I came up with.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

    Me too XD

  • Speedy Marsh

It would be good if you could find a new artist before this story ends. I know a lot of us Zaplings will start reading Wilde Life when Zap! ends, but some might not. You might lose a few readers, if there’s a long delay between the end of this story, and the start of the next.

If there’s gonna be a long delay, you might want to post updates on this site, at least once every couple of weeks, or once a month, with teasers about the next story, and what progress you’ve made with it. Pascalle could post some of the pencil sketches that she did for Zap!

Even if you don’t have any content to post, you could just post a question, like “What do you think Zap and Reona are doing now?” We Zaplings could help keep the Zap! universe alive in the comments. You could even do a “Photoshop” contest, to see who can hack together the best comic, using art from the archives.

I guess my real point is, if you can keep the site “alive”, we’ll keep coming back, and y’all will probably sell more books and such. And, we’ll remember to go to Pascalle’s new comic.

  • Crestlinger

Plan ‘Free willy’ has reached its second phase: off-screen chatting.
Now I want to see what happened in the robot’s creation to create that flaw anything from a Gunner prank, to a flying wrench is fair game.

  • William and Holly sitting in the trees. C-H-A-T-T-I-N-G!!

  • svartalf

    Pretty much

  • svartalf

I would be curious as hell…and trepiditious.

What in the heck did I (apparently willingly) have excised from my recollection?

  • BeepDog

I write code, all bugs are just surprise bonus features.

  • Psithief

Robot is just mad that Zap didn’t give him two eyes.

  • Darkoneko Hellsing

    Free Willy… snerk

  • WolfLann

But he did…. In the Casino arc.

  • Rexan

    Hahaha poor panel-3-Zap.
