So Gunner’s plan is essentially how I remove text from a document. I do a “Find and Replace” but I don’t fill out anything in the “Replace with…” box so it essentially deletes whatever I told it to search for when I click “Replace All…”
How should I feel about this?
Ben
I mean, am I on a slippery slope towards potential psychic genocide?
Plucky Pooka
Did we get details on the massacre yet? (I can’t recall anything about it.)
I’m not sure I see how human genocide is useful. Killing everyone with power or who fights back makes sense. Of course, Gunner is pretty nutty and we humans do like to produce genocidal schmucks.
it hasn’t been expanded on yet, but gunner has his reasons. hes not in it for power. thats what makes him different from the gef bad guys.
Plucky Pooka
Well, the bad news is that your computer communicates with a death ray that kills whatever you replace with nothing. So you are doing some genocidal activities. However, it is limited to the number of words replaced, not the number of people you can kill. (As such, chances of you wiping out a race are slim.)
The good news is that seven out of ten people agree that it isn’t your fault as long as you never had a clue about the death ray.

Do it for the powahhhhhhhhh

Zap! is turning out to be a bit like Nightow’s Trigun which I am a huge fan of. If you squint both your eyes hard and bend your brain, you can sort of think of Zap as Vash.

“kill all humans” the Bender plan of action,…..sounds good, always great to have a solid foundation with which to begin your plan of galactic peace and quiet.
now if we can get naveed to jump up on the desk and take a cat bath………yes?….no?….maybe?
it is too late!….the seed of mental imagery has been planted. you cannot unthink it….mahahhaaha.
This might explain why the imprisoned father felt the other ship needed destroying. Not that he knew Gunner’s plan, per se, but a recognition of the power it would have in evil hands. Of course, he may have known more and been more entwined than this, as well.
Galantry
Gunner/Magneto from X-Men 2?
mrz80
Well great. Since you just blabbed about the death ray, now he knows about it. You’ve just deleted his plausible deniability and burdened his conscience! For shame Doc, for shame!

So with this, I’m assuming Zap and Gunner (and, I’m guessing, Efrem) aren’t human, but survivors from an event on another planet which was home to a Lost race.
KryptonAngel
Gunner’s TRUE plans… REVEALED! (Well, I had just forgotten them from a semi-spoiler on Pascalle’s Tumblr blog)
This is where the fun begins. ^_^
KryptonAngel
I can see your connection, what with Magneto hijacking Cerebro in order to kill the humans.
KryptonAngel
ikr? There can only be, what…. billions upon billions of humans in the universe. He’s got his killing work cut out for himself.
KryptonAngel
My guess is that he wants to kill the humans since, humans being from Earth, they are the heart of the GEF, the root of the weed that is choking the universe, per se.
In other words, he’s taking his vengeful anger on the GEF out on the entirety of the human race.
KryptonAngel
(just because I feel the need to) *assume Dalek voice* EXTERMINATE!
*assume Lost in Space Robot voice* CRUSH, KILL DESTROY!
I love it when quotes apply to a situation…
You have to admire a man who is so thorough, he could probably start slaughtering already but is holding out simply to have a way to be *sure* he got every last one. I wish it was a similar work ethic when I hire an exterminator to deal with an unwanted infestation.
“You have mice? Fine. I will build a machine that can scan the genetic code of 15,000 different forms of vermin. I will find all the mice in the universe. Then I will use my brain as a death ray and kill them all in a single, terrible, instant.”
You would call the police.

What I am wondering is what does gunner get out of this?? Like what does killing all humans do for him?? also it’s probably not good that the lost ship has had it’s AI turned back on again so now gunner can communicate with it….
I’ve thought for a long time that it is similar to Xmen and Trigun.
Safyrejet
Woah, Gunner. That’s a little more than just not being so optimistic.
There’s so many ways this could go and epic movies this could be compared to. The Matrix comes to mind again. I think I’ll just wait anxiously to see what Chris and Pascalle have in store. *sits on the edge of her seat*
Given Pascalle’s reply to my post further down the page, I’d venture the second Xmen film ^_^
OrlahEhontas
Silly question, but has he checked all his search parameters? Andromeda may be set to stop searching upon finding a “Lost One” and if it/she has found one (Gunnar) in the room it probably isn’t going to search any further out, thus giving the appearance of not having the ability to go any further. GIGO has bit more than one professional in the butt and left them chasing a fault that isn’t really faulty.

So humans are a species removed from lost ones? They sure look similar. (Not even having pointy ears..)
Guilty Carrion
Depends on what he charges…I mean, if he has a reasonable going rate…
Ramification
A disappointing turn, IMHO.
Gunner has now been reduced to a mere cliché villain bent on xenocide.I was hoping for a more complex of a character.
Dgeniu
Is Gunner not a human himself? *head tilt*
And on a less serious note, that meme comes to mind…”Kill ALL of the humans!” XD
Anonymous
He’s probably going to pull an X-Men 2 type of deal and have some way to use psychic powers to hit all of them at once, make their brains implode or something.
Anonymous
Oh, it seems Galantry beat me to it just a few comments below! Never mind

Someone, make this image happen. I will do it myself unless someone beats me to it
My word. Somebody else who’s actually read Larry Niven. It’s rather rare to meet one.
Lenvoran
That is sadly the case. Fantastic science fiction writer and woefully under-read. Such is the folly of my generation.

I believe that you mean to refer to OUR generation. But that is no matter. These wonderful coincidences are the stuff of life.

Heh, A Pak Protector…meaning Gunner is out of ‘Luck’ considering that is EXACTLY what mankind…Humanity was bred for …by the Puppeteer’s. Besides if we get whipped out… ‘Slaver’ Style…all things considered…something worse could evolve. For ALL their power and Tech..mostly stolen… The Slavers were rank idiots! It was the Thrint that were REAL dangerous…but even they were not nice folks and were destroyed by their own schemes. What developed? The phenomenally dangerous Humans and their Pak Protectors! Besides… who will be around to put the Kaznti Kittys in their place? Hmmm… but with the appearance of Naveed…perhaps we human s and Kittys have …ahem…sort of tied the knot so to speck? Naveed is certainly ‘sentient’…and sexy too… :)
Anonymous
spit it out,..are you saying you want to pet the kitty?
i’m just going to leave that wide open to interpretation and poking fun.
OH My!! Well… being an able telepath… Gunner should be able to touch Naveed’s helpless mind and fire all the pleasure centers of her brain that leave her in sweaty, sticky, twitching ecstasy for who knows how long… could be VERY addictive! Gunner has the mental ‘Tasp’. :)
