I think someone finally crossed the insanity line…

Naveed’s expression is heartbreaking…it’s amazing that you can give these characters such an emotional depth. When she was first introduced I thought “Here we go, another scantily clad catgirl for fan service duty” but I’m glad I was proven wrong.

i saw the cut in the second panel and for some strange reason the first thing that came to mind was the black night in monty python’s holy grail saying “tis but a scratch”
then you showed us the tender vulnerable look on naveed’s face and i just said “aawwww,…we’re about to see the soft, plushy, snuggable side of naveed’s personality”
then gunner starts laughing and the little man sitting in the theater seat in the back of my mind says “he’s gone funny,…..i need more popcorn for this!! ”
they say laughter is the best medicine.
*munches on popcorn*
Ming the Merciless
Well, the name of this story is “ZAP”, not Gunner!
So Gunner realize HE is the toy!

Sooo..the best laid plans of Mice, Cats and Gunners…etc…

Zap winning at the evil game? Not the one we know.. I’m really excited to learn more about Zap’s former personality..

Did you give Gunner a haircut? Near the beginning of Volume 5 his hair was down to his knee caps. Now it’s just past his waist. Also, I noticed how he seems to age as time goes on. He started off looking like a skinny teenage headbanger (he wears all black, and has long hair), then his physique got more defined around volume 4. Take a close look at him throughout the archives, you might notice it.

*angry english mob voices*
“look!! there, just above us!, its a critic!”
“get him!!”
“get the pitchforks and torches!!”
“get a rope!”
“break his kneecaps first!”
“i want his hair!, me wig smells like a wet rat!!”
“your wig is a rat! ”
“it was trendy before the black death arrived!”
(triumph the insult comic dog)— “i keed, i keed”
sorry, I could not resist, i’ll shut up now.
Strawberry Creme
Don’t know about the muscle tone part, but I’m pretty sure that his hair got damaged in the battle with Zap.
Zepher
“oh gunner, i think i may have a split lip too. could you kiss it and make it better?”
KryptonAngel
Simple answer: Calle changed the way she drew him. She said she was getting annoyed with Gunner’s long hair and she’s toying with the idea of a plot device that shortens it considerably.
I’m just confused as to why he keeps taking his hair out of the fun braids and ponytails…
KryptonAngel
…Yep, he’s lost it. I always DID wonder why he had that Joker-esque smirk on his face a lot. Now I know.
Or, not…
Um, Gunner, care to explain to the REST OF US what you’re talking about? Especially since you called Reona “that human” as if YOU AREN’T A HUMAN BEING!? (which I wouldn’t be surprised about…)
NoWhere_Man
For some reason I feel sorry for Naveed. Granted I know she’s no saint and has done horrible things, but these last panels has shown just how much of an unhealthy influence Gunner has on her.
Ramification
Finally?
Ramification
Seeing as how so many races exist in this universe, I’d be surprised if snake eyes was a human and not some reptilian based life form.
I’m just drawing him differently now. My style has changed a lot over the 8 years I’ve been drawing this comic.
I think all the characters look older, since I’m not using such a cartoony style anymore. Gunner was never intended to look like a teenager, though he will continue to have his hair in his face and wear black. :P
Zap turns out to be the mastermind huh. I still wonder how he got the ship to acknowledge him. Mysteries mysteries.
Safyrejet
Nooooo, Gunner! Don’t fall into the diabolical monologue trap! That never fails to precede a villain’s doom. At least Gunner’s fit of diabolical laughter winds up being sexier (and somehow creepier) in my head than typical fits of diabolical laughter.
Still if Gunner figures he got played somehow that just rules out him somehow being Sicilian and/or Chuck Norris ’cause Sicilians can only be played by dread pirate types in masks and Chuck Norris is, well Chuck Norris. Nuff said. Gunner must be human after all.
At first I thought he meant Efrem, but I guess I was just going through a durp moment since all the comments refer to Zap. Which makes more sense.
Venture
It’s okay. Zap’s hair has also undergone dramatic changes in altitude over the years.

So if Zap knew all along, but his memory got wiped… did he subliminally program himself to fall for Reona somehow?
Anonymous
he likely built it, or had a hand in its making… he did build the one they just blew up

You know… for someone so… ‘roled’ as “Diabolically Evil”… he is awful tender to his Naveed. I mean fixing her arm was like fixing a broken weapon – ‘the weapon is useless broken, not that is any more special than any other gun or sword’… but the cut on her lag was mostly incidental… he didn’t really need to do that! It seems as if..perhaps indeed Gunner does care…even if just a little about his lovely killer Naveed!
Indeed I also applause how intimate and tender the scene is. It is obvious to me that Gunner does feel something for Neveed… maybe not to the point of jeopardizing his plans and schemes… but there is feeling in the tender way he touches her, BRAVO!
How sweet!
Evil people need love too… even their limited close facsimile thereof. :)
Gunner is more of the emotionally abusive type… well no… that’s not it… he is manipulative type… and that is abusive in and of itself!
A MOST Excellent villain!

Tell me, he only uses this girl! I can’t belive that he can feel something for such sluty lady without any sence of pride or style! Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!
Sunphoenix_72
… ???
Slutty? No Sense of pride or style? Are we reading the same comic?
1) Naveed has never ‘vamped’ anyone – not even Zap! She does not use her physical appearance to gain an advantage in battle…she doesn’t need to. She has never portrayed the fact that she ‘sleeps around’ when gunners not around. She IS possessive of Gunner’s affections… needlessly so… in our view, but all appearances are Naveed is quite loyal to her Gunner.
Perhaps you are speaking of her revealing clothing? Have YOU ever tried to get a cat to wear something over their fur? Not possible without bites and scratches. She likely does not feel the need to wear much if she does indeed have fur… very likely.
2) Pride and Style. Really? Naveed is NOTHING but Pride and Style! In a high-tech universe with start travel and space ships… does she use a gun or wear battle armor? No. she uses a sword. Even when she KNOWS her opponents have guns and will use them on her. She is skillful and fast enough that ranged opponents are a challenge Naveed out of pride tries to overcome…proving her superiority…at least to herself! Heck, she even had a favorite sword that was destroyed!
3) If there is anyone Gunner might ‘feel’ for it might be Naveed… but lets put that into perspective. Gunner has already said that Naveed is not as important as Zap… or more importantly his own schemes. So you don’t really have to worry that Gunner will go out of his way to threaten his schemes for Naveed.
A “slut” is someone who sleeps around with a lot of people. Naveed has been pretty clear that she’s only sexually interested in Gunner. (She probably only sees men who are prettier than she is)
I will actually say that he does care about Naveed, but I think is a little unwilling to admit it to himself. She’s not a psychic, after all. His relationship with her is incongruous with his beliefs. But, they’ve been together for a number of years. He likes to look at her and has come to rely on her skills to accomplish his goals.
At the same time, he keeps an emotional distance from her. Gunner doesn’t let people in close, or allow himself to seem vulnerable to others. The only person he let inside the wall was Zap, who he knew since childhood and grew up with. So, with the schism he and Zap experienced, Gunner is kind of left without a confidant. Don’t be surprised if you see his relationship to Naveed shift. She’s kind of the only person he has left.
He had a vision that if he did X at Y moment, things would fall into place (He would meet Reona and she would later be involved in the destruction of the Daedelus). It was a pretty big gamble, but Zap has always had very strong foresight (hence the dreams that kept plaguing him after his memory wipe).
KryptonAngel
The snake eyes-look is an effect to show when he’s tapping into his awesome psychic powers
KryptonAngel
Awww… now you’ve made me feel SORRY for poor, lonely, Gunner…
He could get a Facebook so he could have LOTS of “friends” (who would really just be people that he uses for his diabolical deeds of death and destruction!)
Not that watching Gunner laugh maniacally isn’t enjoyable, but can we PLEASE get to Zap, Efrem, and William soon? *puppy-dog eyes*
I want you to HATE him and then feel awful for him. >:)
We’ll get along to the next scene as soon as some important story stuff happens (over the next few pages). :)

Enaa must not be a cat person,..perhaps a dog person?
Jaye
Pfft. GUNNER FOR PRESIDENT!
Noel
I like where this going. I figured awhile ago (from a picture on the blog) that the way things are playing out was a plan of Zap’s. I was hoping so. I find the concept engaging.
I thought Gunner would not realize until the plan had come to fruition. This page is unexpected to me and in a way I very much like :)
I’m excited to see how this scene unfolds!
Just A Nobody
Oh, no… I strongly suspect that he’s one of the “Lost Ones”- which is something other than “human”.
