The relationship between Naveed and Gunner reminds me of a form of Stockhlom Syndrom. Gunner does something utterly despicable to Naveed but then quickly fallows it up with something nice. Gunner: “Sure I sent you and your new friends into a death trap, now let me fix your broken arm. I’m going to rape your mind now, then heal you leg.”
It keeps Naveed emotionally unbalanced (unbalanced not unstable), she does not know what to think of Gunner, so she ends up moving towards the default reaction of love because he does nice things for her. Eventually she becomes emotionally dependent on earning his approval.
Naveed: “Gunner is so good to me I must do whatever I can to please him. Why else would he do nice things for me if he did not love me?”
Of-course he will hesitate to dispose of her as soon as she stops being useful to him.

Yeah, tender in a Jeckle and Hyde kinda way. If you call what he just did inside her head tender, then you can stay the heck away from my family :p
And then, she feels the need to apologize to him???
Don’t most psychic races have strict penalties for such behaviour? Maybe there aren’t enough psychics left in the Zap Universe for that to be a taboo.
