504 |A Little Off the Top

504 |A Little Off the Top

OMG! Things are getting intense! What is going on in that bottom panel, you guys??

Also, fun fact, if you read through this scene again, starting here, you can watch the sun set in the background. :)

I’ve been hard at work behind the scenes here to get volume one ready to go back to print. We’re almost out of both volume 1 and 2 and I wanted to redo some stuff (like removing the keenspot banners, updating the covers, etc) before printing them again. So, be on the look out for the updated books (hopefully soon, if the proof comes back okay). If you have an older version of volume 1 or 2 you won’t need to re-buy these books. I’m making sure the story pages are the same because it doesn’t seem fair to make you buy them again for no reason. Now, if you want to because you want the new covers, don’t let me talk you out of it!

In my life news I bought a new fridge and I am SO STUPID EXCITED about it. My old one pees all over the floor at various times, for no reason that I have ever been able to discern. I told it that it’s days are numbered. (I’m giving it away with the warning that “It has a bladder control problem, but it does keep your food cold.”)

Thanks for reading! <3 you guys!

    Is that…

    Omg, it is.

The scene in the last panel reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.

  • Strike_Reyhi

reona's head? zap's head? some sort of mental link? gonna be good!

  • Matt

    peeing fridge:
it's actually easy to fix, but you got a shiny new toy. the “pee” is condensation from your freezer, most fridges have an air circulation path between freezer and fridge, along with a condensation trap. this helps to keep the air in the fridge dry and prevent spoilage. unfortunately if the condensation trap breaks or is removed (it's easy to do) condensation from the freezer will run down the fridge and accumulate beneath the bottom drawer and periodically overflow. easily fixed by replacing the condensation trap.

Oooh. That bitch cut my hair and she'd be dead. Especially if my hair was as cool as Holly's. My sexy native dude hair is my precious!

  • maarvarq

you can watch the sun set in the background
That is very cool, in a seriously obsessive way.

  • Zepher

the sword can cut through hair too? impossible <3

  • Yeah, there were several things involved in my decision to get a new one instead of having it repaired. One is the current fridge is old (from the 80s), and not very energy efficient. My state has tax rebates for energy star appliances and the current fridge is actually a little too big for the space, so getting a tax-deductible new stainless fridge that fits into the space is just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

  • I try to add fun, interesting things. Another example would be that you can see Holly, Inman and Scherzer in the background of the casino during the casino arc, BEFORE they show up and kidnap Reona and Robot. : )

  • Inconceivable!

  • You keep using that word.
I do not think it means what you think it means.

    ;)

  • Araesius

Well at least nobody has to take Iocane powder for it.

  • KryptonAngel

I TOTALLY saw that when I was re-reading the other day

  • KryptonAngel

*guffaw* That one NEVER gets old!

  • KryptonAngel

Seriously, if that is who I think it is on that familiar-looking floating island, I will squeal in delight!!! How he would be there when he's in captivity, I have no idea, but if he is there, then the reason will surely be explained to us… eventually… right?

As for the Naveed/Holly situation, now would be a good time for the Satellites to intervene and kick Naveed's fluffy butt! Or, Holly could knock her off the side of the boat into the water. Since most cats and water don't go together, it would be a fitting punishment for our feline femme fatale. Mua-ha-ha-ha!!!!

I love reading Zap and that last panel there is a good example of why. I can't wait to see what comes next. no. really. I can't. Ever consider updating twice a week? 8D

  • it so is.

  • Oo! Oo! I can answer this one! (I've seen the answer enough times that I can at least paraphrase Calle's words, anyway.)

“I would love to update twice a week, or even more. But life, in all its infinite facets, keeps seeing fit that I always have just one too many other responsibilities (paying day job, family, etc) to be able to devote sufficient time to Zap to be able to update more than once a week without burning through my buffer in short order.”

    (Was that close enough, Calle?)
    :)

I hope this gets made as an anime or something i keep hearing the characters reading their lines in my head…

  • Chumash99

That is oone long, loooooooong drop. Hope she lives through the sidden stop at the end.

  • Chumash99

It was crap (the scene with the powder). If I was Westley, I would've thrown the wine in Vizzini's face as soon as I sat down, then leapt over the table and killed him with his own dagger. But hey, that's just me. ;)

  • Ah, but as every educated person knows, Iocaine powder is only fatal if ingested. If you were to throw it in Vizzini's face as you suggested, the resulting sneezing fit (and struggle for the knife) would very likely cause the princess to get her lovely throat cut.

Besides, the way he did it, Westley bested Vizzini because he had, and used, prep time. This puts him in a class with Batman, thus easily outclassing the likes of Vizzini in a battle of wits.

    ;)

[EDIT] Just re-read your post and noticed you actually said you'd throw the wine, not the powder, in Vizzini's face. Oh well, other than the sneezing fit part, the rest still works …
    :

  • There are other things, like President Billings losing a game of tetris. I'm pretty sneaky.

  • Ha! I would love it to be an animated series. If you know anyone in the biz, you let them know we're here. :P

  • Pretty close. Add in the part about how I would love to do it for a living, but it is going to take fan support to make it happen and you've got the whole thing! : )

  • It is, it's one really sharp sword!!

(oh and the island thing in the last panel is cool too)

  • Neithan Diniem

I noticed someone there too, surprised no one else did (other than probably the first guy). Id assume its some psychic projection.

  • Nick

You make me feel like rereading the entire archive just to look for those things… :p

  • Nick

Oh, there's more. If im correct, we've seen that place before. ;)

  • SpringLoaded12

    It did have a point!
    :D
    I am so glad.
    And, it wasn't a dream? I guess?

  • Diz

Thats going to be one sidden stop.

  • Zepher

seriously? she's in the water. it's going to be a soggy stop. geeze, get your words right :O

  • KryptonAngel

However, for some reason it's doesn't look much like she's underwater anymore (maybe pascalle didn't want to bother making more bubble trails)

  • KryptonAngel

BTW, I've been wondering for FOREVER how you do speech, thought, and telepathy bubbles, as well as how you do the cool fonts for SFX. Is there a software with good text bubbles or something?

  • KryptonAngel

Oh, AND I love the way Holly is doing a Matrix-bullet(or sword)-dodging, bend-over-backwards, limbo move!!!! She is one nimble pirate! Maybe her dad taught her gymnastics or summf't.

  • KryptonAngel

Why do I find that to be so like GEF's bumbling fool of a leader? Honestly, who elected that lazy, greedy, and utterly tackless bum?!?

  • KryptonAngel

If I had more MONEY, I would give A LOT more fan support, but alas! :cry

  • KryptonAngel

    I second the motion!

  • She's not underwater anymore. She's in Zap's mindscape. http://www.zapcomic.com/2005/05/20090702/

  • Callouts (speech bubbles) are photoshop's oval tool and the tails are done with the bezier curve shape tool. SFX are hand drawn on a separate layer and the strokes and gradients on them are done with layer styles. everything is photoshop! :)

  • Nick

    I knew it!

    :3

  • Zepher

are there bubbles in zap's mindscape? i like bubbles more. :3

  • Zepher

    troll'd

  • KryptonAngel

That is SO cool! I LOVE photoshop!

  • Robert1001

Oh look another wasted week that could have been sumed up in 1 small box.

  • Will you draw that box for me?

  • You sir, are like School in the summer time.

    No class.

  • LdaQuirm

Ok. It looks like [this] ;)

Seriously though, I’d enjoy this page just for the sunsets.

  • Negatron

Now try to separate what You know from what the Satellites know and you will understand why their kicking Naveed’s butt to protect Holly is improbable, to say the least. On the one side they have Naveed who, antisocial though she may be, freed them from prison and offered them revenge on an empire that destroyed their world. On the other hand they have a bunch of pirates, or in other words thieves and probably murderers. Why would they betray their ally for such people?

Oh, and btw, what exactly would dunking Naveed in the ocean be “fitting punishment” for? The assorted murders and attempted murders? Or perhaps cutting off Reona’s arm, twice? Yours is not exactly a draconian justice system =)

  • Benji

zao island…dame he must be getting crazy powerfulll(getts all giddy thinking bout zap kicking gunner ass)
