Are the different colors on Reona's lips in the middle panel intentional?
While the colors could be different due to various factors, I don't think
the contrast should be this obvious.

Obviously, it's the new look of the century. She has applied lipstick only to her lower lip.Cool.

Alright, new theory.
Zap was never the owner of Excelsior; Excelsior was built and owned by Efrem since the beginning.
Zap was the last owner of Daedalus before it was given to the Aquarians, and he gave it to them himself. He also shared some sort of mental bond with the Aquarians, allowing him some symbolic communication and interaction (for example, shielding Reona from their psychic attack), but not true telepathic dialogue. However, Zap also did not build Daedalus, and was not the original owner; Daedalus was built and originally owned by a psychic with pink psychic energy, who has possibly died since.
I can't remember if we have any backstory info on Holly's father, but if it does not cover when and why he went to find the Daedalus, then he was one of Zap's shipmates when Zap gave Daedalus to the Aquarians. What happened from there is very unclear.
Efrem built and owned Excelsior, another psychic built and owned Daedalus, and Zap and Gunner have their own ships that they built and owned somewhere, with accordingly colored naked hologram computer ladies of their own (Zap's being green and Gunner's being yellow).
This entire story has really been about the psychics and their ships and everything related to each.
The giant space squid plot arc was really just for fun (though that's been clear for a very long time).
