CALLED IT! Whew, he must be getting strong to project an Aura -that- far and at that strength.
This leaves so many questions unanswered though… oh well, Keeps us coming back next time, “Same Zap Time! Same Zap Place!”
Ghalail
That….That kinda looks like Zap's dad. He looks too old and masculine to be Zap, maybe I just haven't seen him in so long I forgot what he looked like.
Ghalail
Nevermind. I went back and checked and I can totally see how that is Zap. ^_^
Awesome as always Lepas!
Edge726
Love the Batman reference!
Crusaderechan
The hand in panel 2 is confusing me… it's too feminine to be Zap's, but… it's a right hand. And it's not metal. If it were Reona's left hand, the thumb would be on the other side…
Otherwise a gorgeous page, and I'm deliriously happy to see Zap again!!
Xpace
I see your point! The feminine hand in panel two has to be Reona's because it's solid (i.e., there and not projected like Zap).
Not to nitpick too much, but it does seem like he got the hands confused and it should have been Reona's left hand.
galthea
well, except for the hand, well done.
Tresk
Holy.. I wasn't expecting a Zap-ish inquisition! Are the stars in the last panel hand created, or from a template?
mirrim
Wow! I'm a big fan of Zap's character so it's killer to see him in full mysterious/powered-up mode here. :D Reona's expression in panel three is perfect. So much pain and questioning. Reminds me of the drama and epic hand reach of the casino-fight arc. <3
Steriema
That opens up some other questions. Where are Zap's parents? And were they psychics?
Tintzone
glowy, shiny and glowy.
Worldguardian
great work maybe some of Zaps psychic power is stored in the ship if it his…
He needs to try harder. Those kind of mistakes should embarrass him.
Mirefrost00
Unless it's been fixed in the last few minutes, that's a left hand. Look at the line of the non-thumb edge of the palm, masking the thumb-edge. That's her left hand.
That was awesome. :3 You have totally made my day! I love the effects and emotions! XD Especially when Reona puts her hands through the image and it starts fading away. So sparkly and cool! xD
(This is actually in reply to lepas, but we've reached maximum reply depth … )
And after I went to all the trouble to post my quick & dirty FAQ on the first page of the archives to correct that misconception … (shakes head in futility)
He's either really strong to get through the helmet that suppresses his powers and to reach her, or he put some of his power in her arm in order to protect her. Or a very off theory that there souls are connected so that he can protect her.
Also he looks angry at what ever is attacking her or in deep focus.
I love the comic by the way :D
Ician
Hmmm…¡Strange! He's dressed like he did before the memory wiping.
Venture
Wow, over 6 years since the original “A Promise” page.
Also, that was page 084, while this is 480. A coincidence, or planned? You decide…
Stunning, wonderful, marvellous and any word I can recall to express my absolute delight! Is there a chance this page could become a wallpaper? Not just the first panel but all of it? Only without this annoying white space with sharp black outlines and speech bubbles. They throw me out of trance of admiration :)
basicallypurple
Absolutely beautiful page! LOVE it!!!
Chris B
Interesting. And I like the new look. Zap needs to have his own identity, he doesn't need to look like another person, he needs to be himself.
TheCoolestGuy
Oh Zap, you so angry! Why you gotta be so angry?
Kurieo
Aww, darn, so much for my daddy theory…
wade419
wow, Calle. The art and expressiveness of these characters is masterful.
DeathOfRats
Both, perhaps. I'm quite certain that most of the story has been written years ago, but that the plot is undergoing permanent adjustments: We post here what we think and expect, and Chris and Lepas baffle us (just like an illusionist does- or a rpg-gamemaster).
The referrence in the title surely has been planned. If the hole sea-monster encounter has been- maybe, maybe not. Doesn't matter, as it was AWESOME! But as the page numbers progressed, an opportunity for this little game of numbers began to manifest- and as the size and arrangement of the panels is not set in stone before publishing, it is possible to stretch some scenes to get an additional page. And, of course, you always can skip some flashback-pages and put their content into one page…
I don't care how wrong I possibly am with this opinion- Zap! still is incredible! I really love this comic! Thank you so much, Lepas and Chris, for sticking with us little Zaplings for so long.
Trigger
Distance has very little to do with psychic powers, especially when it comes to astral projection. What's WAY more impressive is that he actually manifested a tangible, visible presence while astral projecting, which normally is not possible.
Why do we think it's an astral projection route? As noted, he's in his trenchcoat (pre-Wipe).. which kind of, to me, knocks out the AP theory (IMHO)
It could be just like all the other Ship AI's, takes a physical form of some sort..
Only this one does very little other than protect something (The ship) or someone (Reona?) Although I think that may be a little too much of a stretch?
Lobomorto
I just looked back, and i wonder: Is it possible the artwork has still improved since the casino-fight? It was already awesome there, but this just keeps getting better and better…
I find it rather amusing that you can use the word “normal” in the same sentence as “astral projecting”, in a paragraph (well, sort of) about psychic powers.
“Possible” is a little hard to define in this context, isn't it?
Haha. I probably could have qualified it by saying “from what I understand,” since that information was based on the research that I've done on the subject and people's accounts of astral projection, rather than my own experience.
Trigger
Well if he has been subconsciously tracking her aura/life force/energy signature/thing, it wouldn't be a stretch for him to be able to reach her that quickly since he would already know where she was. Also, the common conception of psychic powers is that your energy comes “from you,” which is only half true. Your body does produce energy, but the actual process is probably more like a gestalt of your energy manipulating the energy AROUND you to get a desired effect. So Zap wouldn't necessarily have to project his own energy ALL the way across the galaxy…he could just use what's already there.
This would probably not be too difficult for him under normal circumstances, but, as you say, it must take an immense amount of concentration to get through the suppressor helmet. The fact that he can do this is probably why he will end up defeating Gunner and the GEF. You know…eventually XD
OctoDude
I think we’ve seen Zap’s mom already.
*shuts mouth, hums quietly to self*
:-]
OctoDude
And don’t forget, “FWEEEEEE.”
KryptonAngel
Uh, is it JUST me, or does that outfit make Zap look a bit… chubby?
Keeva
A bit….

i think i will now go to sleep at this point in the comic. a nice spot to fall into a dream…nts: been reading for 3 days now.
Never noticed the interesting juxtaposition of the page numbers before: this page is 480, the page (linked above by Calle) where Zap makes his promise is 084.
Kudos if y’all planned it that way, serendipity if you didn’t!
