And then Zap! turned into a shoujo manga, with a plethora of sparkly magical girls.

Daedelus.. Not your normal female name.. Does this mean we will be seeing an Icarus as well?

Daedelus is remarkably reminiscent of Excelsior. “Sisters”, perhaps?

(Also, my spellchecker insists it should be spelled Daedalus; but I like the spelling change for that little touch of added character … )

    ;)

So… is Daedelus a part of this place that they're raiding or is she actually a hidden program inside robot?

In my opinion, I think she's the ship they came to find. She might be wired up to the temple's mainframe, and moves through the entire network freely. Heck, the temple -itself- might be the ship.. and Deadalus is like a 'mothership' with Excelsior being a scout craft or something.

    That … makes perfect sense.
So, the next question is, what is with Zap's obsession with naked chicks with long hair, and a distinct glow? After all, his ships seem to be filled with them

How do we know Zap -built- them, and not found them?

I know it was implied in that waking dream sequence a couple of issues back, but even then, Zap could have just been working on Excelsior's systems to adapt some outside tech to her… or her to outside tech. We'll find out eventually, but that's just my two pence on the matter.

Neat! Is Ms. Sparkly #2's name at all inspired by the Stargate ship Daedalus? Cause that would be geektastic. ; )

I agree with TalonofElysia on both counts. Zap finding the ship makes sense. Unless he and Gunner are revealed to be really really old–which is a whole other can of worms.

I wonder what the Deadelus personnality will be like (Exelscior was Happy-go-luck and a bit childish)

Why are all the ships women (so far)? Will there be any men? Is it because Zap designed them and he doesn't flow that way? Just curious.

Has anyone else noticed that “Daedalus” is spelled wrong? I mean, this may be intentional, but for some reason my brain wants to nit-pick. This isn't more referential to the Stargate ship Daedalus, but does work this way. There's also a stronger connection since it's still an AI, the Daedalus AI in Deus Ex, which was a very fantastic game. Nice website. Need to update my bookmark.

  • Your brain can nit-pick all it wants. That's how we're spelling it. :)

You'll also need to update your rss feed, if you use rss. Looks like we're on schedule for a full launch next Monday. Hope nothing breaks.

Hm. Perhaps Excelsior assisted Zap in altering the ship- and other ancient, alien gadgets- for human use (#422, panel 3). Maybe Zap did not actually invent any of the “toys” Gunner believes him to (e.g. the crown), but adapted an older technology.

And some people think they have recognized Zap on the underwater carvings in the temple entrance (#457, last panel). So I guess he really could be very old. On the other hand, I could be very wrong.

“Hey, I broke it again, can you help me?”
“Just do it yourself, you've watched me do it ten times before!”

I don't use the RSS. I just check back every Monday. You're pretty consistent, and yes, my brain can nit-pick all it wants. I still think this has more relation to the AI in Deus Ex, considering the namesakes and the fact that they're AI.

If you had a starship with an AI, wouldn't YOU have it be a holographic glowing naked chick?
