were those the lyrics to a STYX song?

  • hammer82

I think it's Japanese. as far as i can tell, its supposed to be written as わたし の くるま わ おおきな うちゅう せん ですよ which means “I won't talk about the big car of mine”. At least, I think that's what he is saying. Perhaps Chis or Pascalle could correct me if I'm wrong?

Using a basic Japanese lesson found on Crunchyroll.com, I gathered that he said approximately, “I car is a big space ship.” or possibly “My car…”. “My car…” obviously makes more sense, given that it is completely out of context, but almost all the examples I found of possessive “My” used “boku”, so I'm not sure.

  • Zana

Yeah, but “watashi no” means the exact same thing as “boku no”, since watashi means basically the same thing as boku.

  • Shiroganekaze

“It is a big ship my car” thats the result translated word by word. So to make sense it would be “My car is a big ship”

    Billy?

  • OctoDude

    Billy?

  • Neko

Yeah, he said “My car is a large spaceship”.  I live in Tokyo and do translation on a regular basis.  It would look like this with the proper characters:
    私の車は大きな宇宙船ですよ!

  • KryptonAngel

I always nice to be able to do that. I applaud your skillz!

I need to watch more subtitled anime.

“boku” is a pronoun used primarily by men.

  • Everybody’s commenting on the Japanese – my first thought was “giant squid – where’s Zap when you need him?”

  • Benji

i saw squid i thought “oh man zap would totally flip”

  • Don Quixote

    Awww, that squid is adorable!

I was all like “Zap’s nemesis returns!”

    Naruto Shippuuden; great stuff. :)

  • Psychotic Muffin

    that’s actually “ore” i think.

  • Kitirena Koneko

No, that would be “Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto, mata au hi made. Domo arigato, Mr Roboto, himitsu wo shiri tai.” (どうもありがとうミスターロボット, また会う日まで. どうもありがとうミスターロボット, 秘密を知りたい.)

[Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto, until the day we meet. Thank you very much, Mr. Roboto; want to know a secret?]

Not that I know any Japanese–atai wa gaijin desu ya; Nihongo no wakannai! -_^

  • Kitirena Koneko

“Boku” is more polite; “ore” is rougher and projects a more arrogant/”tough guy” image.

  • Kitirena Koneko

According to Google Translate, it comes out roughly as “my car has a big crowd” or “my car is crowded” if I typed it in right.

  • Kitirena Koneko

“watashi” is more polite/feminine, whereas “boku” is exclusively for men’s usage. Japanese is weird in that it has masculine and feminine forms.
