It’s a metaphor for how empty his head is… I mean mind. Because he had his memory wiped, not because he’s stupid. Not that he isn’t stupid, at least this version of him. But that’s because he had his memory wiped, because before he seemed to be pretty smart. At least that’s what we are given to assume. I think I’m gonna shut up before I confuse myself.
