Yeah, I had suspected. Technically, the man known as Serpent had the golden aura, aka, that of the golden falcon, while Zap's has been green from day one, which was the color of the Serpent

The serpent's animal avatar is purple with yellow eyes. The falcon is yellow with green eyes, matching Gunner and Zap's coloring, respectively. There has never been a green serpent in the comic.

You kind of have it backwards, somehow. : P

Iconically serpents are green. I was thinking that Zap has something to do with the serpent with the slit eyes and green, too. :p Glad I read this comment.
