    Aaaaand…here come the tentacles.

  • Marduk

    Gwaaa

  • Keeva

Nothing good comes from the addition of tentacles.
….Or nothing BUT good, depending on your preference…

  • Daniel Kauwe

so in addition to being homophobic Zap is also xenophobic…

  • Negatron

Give the guy a break why don’t you!? She is trying to tentacle rape him as if he was a japanese schoolgirl in a poorly dubbed anime after all.

  • Daniel Kauwe

He made his comment before the tentacles started.  Also, I still find his xenophobic comments to be small minded.

  • Negatron

    Okay, so, three things:
    1. I think you’re confusing a specific sexual preference with xenophobia. He never said he didn’t like her species, simply that he was not physically attracted to it (it, being the species)
    2. As, I believe, was already mentioned a few pages back, his comments are meant to highlight his post-mind-wipe character in all it’s childishness
    3. You seem to be taking this very seriously for a story that’s basically a parody of space opera; space opera itself not being the most serious of genres.

  • Daniel Kauwe

Actually, I think you’re taking my comments too seriously.  If you don’t like the specific word choice of “xenophobia” then we can use speciest or something similar. The fact remains that he’s clearly expressing disgust at inter-species relationships, particularly given that he literally says so.  So perhaps xenophopia was not the most accurate word to choose, that doesn’t change the sentiment.

I understand that his comments are coming from an addled mind – my comments are not a meta criticism aimed or geared toward critiquing the authors or story or any of the meta structure.

My comment was essentially just what I wrote and it was a reaction to Zap as Zap in his current incarnation.

  • Negatron

Now you’re making this be about semantics, which it isn’t. Xenophobia describes quite a specific mindset and it is not the one Zap is exhibiting here. He isn’t saying: “You are untrustworthy/evil/inferior, because you’re of a different species”, all he’s saying is “I find you’re species unattractive, or indeed, physically repulsive”. The simple difference being that while the former is unacceptable and generally reprehensible, the latter should, at the very least, be tolerable.

As for taking this debate too seriously… perhaps you’re right, perhaps I’m right, or perhaps (and this may blow your mind =) each of us is right and we’re both taking this too seriously. If that’s the case, then I invite you to add whatever you’ve left to add so that we can end this little discussion before it gets out of hand, and so that we can return to enjoying the marvelous webcomic that is Zap!

    Both of you.
    STFU.
    NOW.

Who died and appointed you Grand Arbiter of the Web?

No, look at the thought bubble. He’s scared his son will be a super saiyen.

  • Tech

    Worked didn’t it?

  • MokouSmokes

This may be replying to something 4 years old… but, Daniel, go find a soapbox on tumblr. Good lord this is fiction. That people try to micromanage what is expressed even so far as this with “-phobic” accusations (you know, the type of knee-jerk accusations that in no way encourages actual thought about the context, nuances or even taking into account that such things as jokes exist) is far more offensive a thought to me than anything you complain of.

    Son?

*GASP!* Did you just assume the offspring’s gender?!
