In the future CDs are square

information storage is already moving away from optical (spinning) storage and is being realized more and more as solid state (stuff like your handy key-chain USB drive, or the larger portable harddrives). What he has there could simply be a combination of the two technologies.

  • Strike_Reyhi

it's not really a disk at this point, I mean floppy disks had square cases but had disks in them. Must be like how we screw up the nomenclature on stuff because of previous technology.

  • OctoDude

Wow, that was easy.  Little does Billings know, all that disc contained was a really awesome recipe for Chocolate Cherry Bundt Cake that Verbatim found while surfing the net over lunch.

  • Inkasep

but now everyone will know the secret recipe!!

  • Negatron

Doesn’t anyone else find it funny, that the data storage device is held by one Maximus VERBATIM ?!

  • IMNC

But solid state does not require any movement, only interface. There would be no reason for a hole in it at all.

  • Negatron

Hence, “combination of the two”. Also, you seem to be overlooking the power of tradition, “having a retro feel” and most of all… artistic license =)

  • Negatron

…I know! The square part sits still in the drive, only the darker, middle part rotates =)

  • Crestlinger

Panel 4 president = Dr. Wily. Not too much of a stretch.

  • Meanwhile in 2019, the popular choice for storage seems to be outsourcing it to the so-called “cloud” (which is just a fancy way of saying someone else has all your data).

  • The hole is there to put your finger in to hold it, duh.
