Is there any particular rhyme or reason to the color each laser is, or is it sorta like Star Wars' “Eh, whatever” (Between movies, at least)?

I would say the color directly indicates the gender of the wielder.

They are different models of Lazer gun. The Lazer gun in Zap uses different ammo cartridges that have different colors. Think of it like different caliber of bullet, but prettier. Lol
